Jia Wan is a partner at AnJie Broad Law Firm. Her principal areas of practice are insurance and reinsurance, cross-border litigation and international arbitration. She holds an LL.M. from William & Mary Law School and is admitted to practise in the People's Republic of China and the State of New York, and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

In insurance and reinsurance, Ms. Wan regularly represents domestic and international insurers, reinsurers, insurance intermediaries and major corporations in complex disputes. She also advises on claims, subrogation, reinsurance liabilities, policy interpretation, product compliance and the management of significant insurance risks.

In cross-border dispute resolution, Ms. Wan has extensive experience in cross-border litigation, institutional arbitration and ad hoc arbitration. She has handled matters involving Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States, and frequently works with overseas solicitors, barristers and other professional advisers to coordinate legal analysis and proceedings across jurisdictions.

Ms. Wan was named Insurance: PRC Firms Lawyer of the Year at The Legal 500 China Awards 2025. She has been recognised by The Legal 500 as a Next Generation Partner in Insurance from 2021 to 2026 and ranked Up and Coming in Insurance by Chambers Greater China Region in 2025 and 2026.


Representative Cases

Insurance & Reinsurance

  • Ms. Wan advises on disputes involving property all risks insurance, business interruption insurance, directors' and officers' liability insurance, construction insurance, export credit insurance, professional indemnity insurance and life and health insurance. Her experience encompasses coverage, policy interpretation, quantum, causation, exclusions and insurers' subrogation rights.
  • She also represents insurers and reinsurers in reinsurance and retrocession disputes concerning the scope of reinsurance cover, claims cooperation and control, accounting and settlement, set-off, contract termination and commutation.
  • Ms. Wan was part of the team that successfully represented the insurer in the SK Hynix insurance subrogation case before the Supreme People's Court of China. The case arose from one of the largest insurance claims in China's insurance history and was selected by People's Court Daily as one of the Top 10 Commercial Cases of 2019.
  • Beyond contentious matters, Ms. Wan advises insurers, reinsurers, online insurance companies and insurance intermediaries on claims handling, subrogation, product and business compliance, major risk reviews and day-to-day legal matters.

Cross-Border Litigation & International Arbitration

  • Ms. Wan represents insurers, reinsurers, financial institutions, asset managers and other domestic and international companies in disputes arising from cross-border transactions, construction projects, complex commercial contracts and intellectual property matters.
  • She has acted in arbitrations conducted under the rules of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC), International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration (ICC International Court of Arbitration), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), as well as in a number of ad hoc arbitrations.
  • In multi-jurisdictional disputes, Ms. Wan regularly works with overseas solicitors and barristers to develop overall case strategy and coordinate legal analysis, evidence preparation and hearings. She has also handled parallel litigation and arbitration, cross-border interim measures, and the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in China.
